WRC: Peugeot dismisses 208 T16 delay talk

Jumat, 14 Februari 2014

Peugeot’s 208 T16 is still on course to break competitive cover on next month’s Acropolis Rally, the French manufacturer says. It denied rumors of a further delay to the March 1 homologation date with news that Irishman Craig Breen would be in the car for the classic Greek event, which is now part of the European Rally Championship.

Having tested the R5 category car extensively, Breen admitted he could not wait to get behind the wheel of the car in competition.

“It’s a fantastic car,” he said. “And the way it’s just kept getting quicker and quicker in the last tests is fantastic.

“It was absolutely the right decision to delay the homologation from the start of the year until now, the car has really evolved so well in the latest tests we’ve done.

“To be honest, the Acropolis can’t come soon enough — I just want to get in this car and start trying to win some rallies with it.”

Breen added that his debut in a World Rally Car on last week’s Rally Sweden, where he drove a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, would help him in his preparations for the full-time step from naturally aspirated S2000 power to forced induction.

“Sweden helped me get used to the different nature of the engine and the way the power comes,” he said. “It was very good experience, and I have to thank Peugeot for letting me drive the other car, but now I’m really looking forward to the 208.”

Breen finished ninth in Sweden.
