Spain starlet Thiago Alcantara was born in Italy and reveals what his father told him about life in Serie A.
The Bayern Munich midfielder’s father is Mazinho, a Brazilian who at the time of his birth was playing at Lecce and also featured for Fiorentina.
“My father told me so much about Serie A. He told stories about Diego Maradona, Antonio Careca, Dunga and many other champions,” said the Barcelona youth product.
He could well play in tomorrow’s Spain-Italy match at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid, kicking off at 21.00 GMT.
“It’s going to be an important friendly against Italy, a nation that won the World Cup in 2006 and can count on champions like Mario Balotelli and Andrea Pirlo.
“Of course the World Cup is a dream, not only because it is being played in Brazil, where I have my roots, but also as it is a special event.
“I am happy to have been called up after a period of being dropped and it represents an important prize for my hard work. I hope to go to Brazil in June.”
