Arsenal FC have confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has extended his stay at the north London club by signing a new contract with the Gunners.
The 23-year-old, who joined from hometown club Legia Warszawa in 2006, put pen to paper on the new deal which the club described as a “long-term contract”. “I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here,” said the Polish international. “I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our club towards success in the years to come.”
Since making his debut in an English League Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion FC in 2009, Szczęsny has featured 121 times for the Gunners, including every minute of this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign. “We’re very pleased Wojciech has signed a new long-term contract,” added manager Arsène Wenger. “I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength. He can be an important part of Arsenal football club for many years to come.”
