Robert Kubica has underlined his need for a top-line World Rally Championship seat to keep him in the sport for 2014.

The Pole, who is on the verge of winning this year’s WRC 2 title, said he had enjoyed his first season in rallying, but he needed to raise the level if he was to stay next season.

“I’m only interested in continuing if I can get a good opportunity,” he said.

“There will be some talks in the next few weeks to see what’s possible. I haven’t made up my mind.

“If there’s no good opportunity in rallying then maybe I’ll go back to the circuit.

“I am coming from a very high professional championship – F1 – and when you come from there it’s very difficult to reach a similar level.

“If I come back to rallying, then I need a good programme with good rallies and a lot of testing in order to improve and develop.

“I have seen I can do a good job on some events, but there is a long way to go.”

M-SPORT CHASING KUBICA

The 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner is in discussions with both Citroen and M-Sport for next season.

M-Sport team principal Malcolm Wilson said: “Yes, we are talking to Robert, but we are talking to a lot of drivers about next season.

“There are all sorts of possibilities of how we could incorporate him.

“There’s no doubt he’s got the speed and I think there’s probably more speed to come.

“One thing is for sure, if he comes here, we would look after him very well.”
