Over the years, Italian football has earned a reputation based on the defensive prowess of the national team and Serie A. Nowadays, there’s been a revolution of sorts.
There are now plenty of young, quality, homegrown attackers in the peninsula, and many clubs have some of the most lethal strikers in the world.
With that in mind, Forza Italian Football breaks down the top five Serie A attacking partnerships in the league right now, not necessarily strikers, but the men who combine to make and score the goals.
5) Rodrigo Palacio and Ricardo Alvarez (Inter)
Diego Milito returned and scored a brace against Sassuolo in their 7-0 demolition, but it’s been Rodrigo Palacio and Ricardo Alvarez who have impressed the most for the Nerazzurri. Since Walter Mazzarri’s appointment as coach, Alvarez has enjoyed a resurgence in form. The Argentine has two goals and three assists thus far and has been the focal point in the Inter attack.
As a result, Palacio has three goals of his own and has even provided an assist for Yuto Nagatomo, another breakout player this season. While the two Argentineans haven’t been directly involved in either of their goals, they’ve created four chances per game between them, only Francesco Totti and Miralem Pjanic have more.
If they can keep up this same form, the two South Americans could be one of the most underrated, yet effective, duos in Italy. If Milito can stay fit, it’ll turn into a three-headed monster.
