Carlo Ancelotti’s side have beaten Atletico Madrid twice in recent weeks but the Rojiblancos president says the upcoming derby in the Primera Division will be different

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has warned Real Madrid that they will not be able to push their city rivals about in La Liga.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side recently beat the Vicente Calderon outfit 5-0 over two legs in the Copa del Rey semi-finals to claim a place in the final against Barcelona.

However, Diego Simeone’s mean beat los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season and Cerezo remains optimistic as his side prepare to host the Liga hopefuls on March 8.

“There are three straight games against Real Madrid. They eliminated us from the Copa del Rey, but the Liga match will be different,” he told Marca.

“The players will do everything to win that game and whoever wins will have taken an important step. There’s no doubt that it will be different.

“It’s always difficult to beat Madrid over two legs. We were eliminated in the first game because we deserved two goals and it’s difficult to score three in the second leg.

“If you concede a penalty after seven minutes the game is dead.”

Atleti face AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League and despite the Rossoneri‘s disappointing domestic form, Cerezo feels his side will have to play well.

“They’re a classic Champions League team. We’re lucky to face them. It will be difficult. We’re going to try to reach the quarter-finals.”
