Rally Sweden: Ostberg looking to fight for victory

Senin, 03 Februari 2014

Citroen’s Mads Ostberg has said he wants to try and fight for the victory on Rally Sweden, ‘if everything goes well’.

The Norwegian has finished on the podium in Karlstad the last three years in succession – coming third in 2013 and 2012 and second in 2011 – and has admitted at the very least he wants to maintain his run of rostrums this week.

“It [Rally Sweden] is one of the most important races of our season. The aim is to finish on the podium and if everything goes well, I want to try and fight for the win,” said the Citroen Abu Dhabi World Rally Team DS3 WRC pilot. “We’ll have a lot of fans cheering us on alongside the roads. And although I am very focussed on my racing line, I still notice our fans waving the Norwegian and Swedish flags!”

After finishing fourth on Rallye Monte Carlo last month, the 2014 WRC season opener, Ostberg took in the Mountain Rally recently in his native Norway.

“It was a good opportunity to learn about the car, get used to it and work with the WRC winter tyres,” continued the former Crash.net columnist, who finished second overall on the event. “It was a bit like preparation for the two days of testing we have scheduled before the rally.”

To date Ostberg has competed in Sweden seven times, making his WRC debut there back in 2006, when he was just 18-years-old.

“I was a little afraid before starting my first rally in the WRC,” Ostberg recalled, “and to be honest, I hadn’t driven in that many events before I found myself in the big time. But I just had to learn as I went along, because I was determined to get to the top level. It is important to have dreams…

“I have always set myself goals. I have achieved some of them, but there are some others I have yet to achieve!” he summed-up.
