Sepang MotoGP Test: Rossi impressed by Open, Espargaro

Senin, 10 Februari 2014

For many years Valentino Rossi has been calling for more fuel and less electronics in the MotoGP World Championship.

That will happen in 2014 in the new Open category, which must run the less sophisticated control ECU system, but will benefit from four litres of extra race fuel.

Meanwhile Rossi and the other Factory class riders will continue with their own manufacturer software and have seen their race fuel cut by a further litre relative to last year.

At the end of this week’s Sepang test, when Aleix Espargaro put his Open class Yamaha a shock fourth on the timesheets, Crash.net asked Rossi to review the performance of the new machines.

“I think the potential of the Open class is very impressive. Also in the [race] simulation, Espargaro is very fast,” replied the seven time MotoGP champion.

“But especially it is him, so it means he is in a very good shape and able to bring the bike to the limit.

“Also more fuel and less electronic is a good idea for sure, for everybody!”

Would you like to try the Open class Yamaha?

“I feel good with my bike, but I want my bike with 24 litres!” he smiled.

Rossi, who took his first race win since 2010 on his return to Yamaha last season, finished the Sepang test second fastest to Honda’s reigning champion Marc Marquez.
