Olympiacos link up with UNICEF

Olympiacos FC have announced they have entered a two-year partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and will wear the charity’s logo on their shirts.

Olympiacos and UNICEF have come together to raise funds and awareness for UNICEF’s 100% Campaign to immunise children not currently reached by vaccination programmes. The Greek club’s new UNICEF-branded jersey was worn for the first time in the UEFA Champions League Group C game at SL Benfica on 23 October.

The Piraeus side’s president Evangelos Marinakis explained: “With the help of our club, it is anticipated that the lives of more than 50,000 children will be saved. Once again, despite the financial crisis in Greece, Olympiacos are reaching out to those in need. We call on all Greeks to stand by us and put the well-being of children worldwide first.”

Olympiacos’s strategic adviser, former player Christian Karembeu, added: “I have worked with UNICEF in the past and I’m well aware of their mission and goals. We are working with one of the most well-known non-profit organisations in the world, with which we are proud to say we share the same values, in an effort to save lives and protect the future of our children.”
