David Moyes will be a happier man when Manchester United take the field at Old Trafford to take on West Brom in their English Premier League game on Saturday.

That Manchester Derby debacle has been usurped by the 1-0 win over rivals Liverpool in the Capital One Cup third round.

“It was a great result,” Phil Jones told Manchester United ‘s official website of the Liverpool result. “We had to win the game, especially having got beaten in the league at Anfield and we obviously wanted to bounce back after the disappointing result last weekend.

“So it was a positive result and hopefully we can kick on from here. The atmosphere was brilliant but the fans always get behind us. The other night was one of those special nights where you beat your big rivals and the fans are up on their feet singing and cheering. It was a great night for everyone.”

Of course, all the ghosts of the Derby past will come back to haunt United and Moyes if the Red Devils do not carry forward that good result with a win over West Brom.

“We reacted well from a disappointing defeat against City and we’re looking forward to the West Brom game,” Jones added. “Hopefully we can kick on in the league again and pick up three points to give us confidence going in to next Wednesday’s game against difficult opponents (Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League).”

Having picked up just seven points from their first five Premier League games, United need a win desperately and nothing but three points will do against the Baggies.

It really was a win-win for Moyes on Wednesday – not only did United defeat Liverpool to bounce back from that drubbing handed by Manchester City, but they also saw their opponents for Saturday – West Brom – play out an entire 120 minutes before being deflated further by losing to Arsenal on penalties.

Steve Clarke’s men, even if a lot of them were not regular starters, will definitely be jaded, and Old Trafford is not a place for a jaded side to visit.

The last time the two sides met, it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game for United as manager with the match ending in an incredible 5-5 at the Hawthorns.

That same result will not be repeated, but Moyes will definitely settle for 5 on his side’s scoresheet.

Team News: Moyes expects Robin Van Persie to be fit for the game against West Brom in a huge boost for United. Whether the manager decides to start with the Dutch striker, after Javier Hernandez scored the winner against Liverpool, remains to be seen.

Tom Cleverley has also recovered from his injury and is expected to be a part of the squad.

West Brom could welcome back striker Matej Vydra and midfielder Chris Brunt, but Ben Foster and Zoltan Gera remain sidelined.

Key Men: Manchester United: Wayne Rooney will want to continue his good recent form and will look to get on the scoresheet on more than one occasion.

West Brom: The on-loan Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair might not have been setting the Premier League on fire, but what better time than to have your best game for West Brom than against Manchester United.
