The World Rally Championship is one of the most epic spectacles in motorsports, but sometimes the pace is just too fast.
Rally fans are known for camping out in frozen Finnish forests just for a split-second glimpse of their favorite drivers hurtling past in a mud-splattered blur.
This video, featuring driver Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia in their Volkswagen Polo R WRC, slows things down considerably.
With just over two minutes of slo-mo, there are plenty of up-close glimpses of the Polo sliding through snow or traversing a gravel stage engulfed in dust.
From YouTube to Top Gear, slow-motion is all the rage in car videos. However, a rally car on a WRC stage is what this trick is meant for. It’s amazing to see the insane steering angles and frenetic movement of the car’s suspension.
Watch this video, and you’ll be forgiven for thinking that WRC cars can fly.
The Polo R WRC can’t fly, but it is a pretty stout machine.
It’s powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with turbocharging and direct-injection. It produces 300 horsepower, even with an air restrictor. The power is fed to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission.
There’s even a road-going version, albeit with a much less savage 220 hp from 2.0 liters of displacement. Sadly, like the Polo subcompact itself, the R WRC isn’t sold in the United States.
