The FIA has approved the World Rally Championship’s change of running order format for 2014, with the points leader now first on the road for day one of every event.
The changes also include the loss of the qualifying stage on gravel rallies, and were ratified by Wednesday’s meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.
An FIA statement said the aim was to increase the spectacle for fans and to reduce the use of slowing tactics.
Priority one and two drivers will now run in championship order on day one of a WRC round and reverse rally order classification on the remaining two days.
Crews returning to the event under Rally 2 regulations will start at the back of the P1 and P2 drivers.
It was also confirmed that all events will now run to a fixed format of a ceremonial start on a Thursday and a powerstage (which must be at least six miles long) finish at midday Sunday for European events.
The WMSC also approved a date change for the Rally of Italy. The Sardinian event moves back one week and will now start on June 5.
