Top 6: Potential Premier League targets from La Liga

Senin, 23 Desember 2013

The financial crisis in La Liga has allowed Premier League clubs to pick up quality players for bargain prices in recent years.

And that trend is set to continue for the foreseeable future.

Barcelona and Real Madrid not included, the other 18 teams in Spain’s top-flight division will sell their best players if the price is right.

With that in mind, let’s look at six La Liga players who are attainable and would do an excellent job in the Premier League.

6. Ivan Rakitic | Sevilla

Sevilla lost so many of their best players in the summer that this season was always going to be tricky to navigate for the Andalusian outfit.

However, the ship at the Sanchez Pizjuan has been steadied thanks largely to the performances of their captain Ivan Rakitic, who is reportedly on the radar of the Premier League’s big boys.

The 25-year-old has scored seven La Liga goals already this season, and there’s little doubt he would be an excellent coup for any English club.

5. Bruno | Villarreal

Bruno is Mr. Villarreal – he’s the club’s captain and talismanic midfielder – so it would take a big offer to even tempt him away from El Madrigal.

But almost every Premier League club would be improved by this classy midfielder’s presence.

Bruno has been capped by the Spanish national team four times, which tells you everything you need to know about his quality.

4. Jonas | Valencia

Brazil international Jonas is one of La Liga’s most underrated players.

The 29-year-old has scored eight goals in 12 La Liga appearances for Los Che this season, and could easily end the campaign with 20 league goals to his name.

Jonas can play off the wing or in a central role – and if he continues his run of goalscoring form, expect Premier League clubs to start circling.

3. Alex Song | Barcelona

Things haven’t worked out for Alex Song at Barcelona since his move from Arsenal in 2012, but it mustn’t be forgotten how he effective he was in the Premier League.

Still only 26, Song would be an excellent signing for any top-six Premier League club looking to bolster their midfield.

2. Inigo Martinez | Real Sociedad

Those who watch La Liga on a regular basis will be able to tell you exactly how good Inigo Martinez was last season.

The classy central defender, who has been capped twice by Spain, is on course to become a world-class centre-back.

Any interested Premier League clubs will need to act quickly, though. The 22-year-old is a player destined for big things in the game, and Real Madrid and Barcelona will surely soon come knocking with substantial offers.

1. Diego Costa | Atletico Madrid

He’s been the talk of La Liga this season – Diego Costa is the man all the Premier League’s big boys want.

The Brazil-born striker, who will represent Spain in the near future, has scored a remarkable 19 goals in 17 La Liga matches this season.

Everything he touches has turned to gold since he replaced Radamel Falcao as Atletico Madrid’s main striker in the summer – and he reportedly has a £32m release clause in his contract, which seems a very fair price for the tenacious 25-year-old.
