Bundesliga club Hannover fires coach Mirko Slomka

Jumat, 27 Desember 2013

HANNOVER, Germany Hannover fired coach Mirko Slomka on Friday after a loss to struggling Freiburg capped a disappointing first half of the Bundesliga season.

Hannover said it would try to find a successor “in the coming days” to Slomka, who had held the job since January 2010. His contract ran through June 2016.

“This was not an easy decision for us, but we are convinced that we want to make a change,” general manager Dirk Dufner said.

Club president Martin Kind thanked Slomka for saving Hannover from relegation in his first season and then twice leading it into the Europa League.

However, last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Freiburg sent Hannover into the winter break in 13th place in the 18-team top division, with 18 points — only four clear of the relegation zone. Slomka is the fourth Bundesliga coach to lose his job this season.
