Gomez joined the Viola from Bayern Munich this summer for a fee of around €20 million and has scored two goals for the Italian side so far this season, while Rossi, who’s been with the Gigliati since last season’s January transfer window, has netted three.
Mondonico spoke to Tuttomercatoweb.com on Friday about the duo and believes that the club should push for a higher finish on the Serie A table this season.
“Fiorentina did really well on the transfer market,” said the 66-year-old, who had a stint as coach of the club in 2004.
“Gomez may not end up as the Capocannoniere, but the Gomez-Rossi partnership is the best matched in the whole championship.
“I’m sure that they will be the most prolific pairing by the time the season ends.
“Now Fiorentina need to target something important. After last term’s fourth place, they now need to finish in the top three.”
