Kris Meeke has been named as one of Citroen’s two drivers for the 2014 World Rally Championship.
The 34-year-old from Dungannon competed as a guest driver for the French team in two WRC rounds this year.
“It’s an incredible opportunity – I’m really lucky to be able to work with a team that has so much experience and so many titles,” said Meeke.
Meeke will race alongside Norway’s Mads Ostberg, who joins Citroen after competing for the M-Sport squad.
The 2009 Intercontinental Challenge champion made his return to the World Rally scene in August after 18 months out.
Meeke had not competed in a World Championship event since his involvement with the Mini team in 2011.
He crashed out in both WRC events this year, in Finland and Australia, but did enough to secure a place for 2014.
“I’ve always been close to Citroen over the last few years,” added Meeke.
“I have only competed in 10 WRC rallies. I think I’ve got some potential, but I still need to get some experience under my belt.
“The Citroen DS3 WRC is a terrific car and I’m going to be able to use the team’s knowledge to help me improve.
“I know that I’ll have to be patient in the first half of the season and learn all about the rallies that I haven’t done before.”
