Rally Poland confirms route for 2014 WRC return

Sabtu, 07 Desember 2013

The organisers of Rally Poland announced the route for the event this week ahead of its return to the World Rally Championship fold in 2014.

The event, which will run from June 26-29 and which was last part of the WRC in 2009, will include four stages in Lithuania, running as part of Friday’s itinerary.

“We have prepared 21 special stages on gravel roads, including four in Lithuania,” Jaroslaw Noworol, clerk of the course, confirmed on the events official website. “Several of them or their parts are known from 2009 edition of Rally Poland but the Lithuanian stages and additionally two in Poland will be completely brand new to everyone. One of the new stages is to be run close to the Polish-Russian border.

“Rally fans will also enjoy the best drivers’ duels at the spectacular Mikolajki Arena stage four times, twice with artificial lighting and with two cars competing at the same time.

“The HQ will be placed in a popular tourist resort of Mikolajki and the service park on concrete and asphalt surface around Hotel Golebiewski. Remote service park will find its place in a beautiful Druskininkai Spa in Lithuania, some 47 kilometres from the Polish border.”

The event will begin on Thursday June 26, and following a ceremonial start in the main square of Mikolajki, competitors will tackle three stages in the afternoon – one to be run in the dark.

Friday includes the Lithuanian part of the event, beginning with one stage in Poland, before four tests are held on the other side of the border – the last of which will be the longest of the event at more than 34 kilometres. The second day will conclude with two runs through the Mikolajki super special.

Saturday and Sunday’s action will then be focused in the province of Warmia and Mazury, east and north-east of Mikolajki. Sunday’s final test will be the Power Stage.

A more detailed itinerary will be published in due course.
