The country, which last hosted a MotoGP event at Rio in 2004, joined fellow South American nation Argentina in gaining a new place on the provisional 2014 calendar.
But while Argentina was listed with no caveats, the Brazilian round was subject to FIM Homologation of the Brasilia circuit.
The MotoGP race is planned for late September but to achieve the required sign-off, building work to improve rider safety (especially run-off), the pit area and grandstands was due to start in December and conclude in April or May.
However a statement released to Brazilian website Globo.com states that the construction schedule will not be met and the circuit’s MotoGP debut will be delayed until 2015.
Brazil is due to form round 15 of this year’s series – and to be the last of three back-to-back races, following Misano and Aragon. That punishing run could now be broken up, with the Aragon event delayed by one week to take over Brazil’s September 26-28 date.
The MotoGP calendar would thus return to 18 rounds – the level for all but one season since 2007 – with new arrival Argentina effectively replacing Laguna Seca.
