Leverkusen loan Guardado

Kamis, 30 Januari 2014

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have signed versatile Mexican international Andrés Guardado on loan from Valencia CF until the end of the campaign, with an option to make the deal permanent.

“The offer from Leverkusen was a great chance for me to start something new,” said left-back cum left midfielder Guardado, who leaves Valencia after 48 Liga appearances in a season and a half. The 27-year-old, capped 99 times by Mexico, previously plied his trade with RC Deportivo La Coruña from 2007 until summer 2012.

“The Bundesliga has a great reputation in Spain,” continued the former CSD Atlas player. “It’s special for me to get to know another big European league after the Spanish Liga. Bayer have been a top German club for years and are regularly involved in the Champions League. I’m very happy that the deal has been done.”

Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Völler added: “Andrés fits our requirements perfectly because of his versatility. We’re convinced he will give our team an extra push.” Leverkusen face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, with the first leg in Germany on 18 February before the decider on 12 March.
