Chelsea have confirmed that Michael Essien’s proposed move to AC Milan is close to completion, with only a few details still to iron out.

The Ghana international has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season and has been given the green light from Jose Mourinho to leave in search of regular game time.
The Rossoneri made their interest known and a deal was struck, with the 31-year-old set to undergo a medical on Saturday before thrashing out personal terms and making the move official.
“Chelsea Football Club and AC Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Michael Essien to the Serie A side,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“Essien has travelled to Italy and the completion of the move is subject to him agreeing personal terms with Milan and passing a medical examination.”
The former Lyon star says he is excited to pull the famous Milan jersey and thanked all parties involved in facilitating the transfer.
“I’m happy to be here. I will do my best for Milan and I hope to be ready to play,” Essien told Milan Channel.
“I spoke with Mr (Clarence) Seedorf (the Milan head coach) two days ago. I cannot wait to be available.
“I really want to thank the chairman and the team and thanks to Mourinho, who has allowed me to wear the Rossoneri shirt.”
