Ostberg warms up for Rally Sweden with second on Mountain Rally

Senin, 27 Januari 2014

Citroen Total Abu Dhabi WRT driver Mads Ostberg took the runners-up spot on the Mountain Rally in Norway last weekend.

The Norwegian was using the event as ‘test’ ahead of Rally Sweden, round two of the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship, next week. He eventually finished 1 minute 36.3 seconds behind Pontus Tidemand’s Ford Fiesta RS WRC, while Anders Grondal was third in his Subaru Impreza STi.

“Second place overall is okay,” Ostberg told his personal website. “To get what we wanted from entering Mountain Rally, we had to run with the same tyres used in the WRC. To run with the narrower tyre [as allowed by the regulations in the Norwegian Rally Championship], might have given my competitors a clear advantage, but even though I admit I would have liked to win the event, getting the info and experience was much more important.”

“I’m here to gather as much experience as I possibly can before Rally Sweden, and I got a lot of new experiences – being the first car through on every stage, and with all the snow that arrived, I think I got it all!” added the Citroen DS3 WRC pilot.

“At some places there were so much snow that we were really struggling in the uphills and at some narrow parts you had to be so careful, as it is so easy to touch a bank and then you just spin and everything turns into a white inferno.

“Everyone can get a good result under perfect conditions, but you need experience to manage the tricky ones,” he concluded.
