Tidemand wins Rally Sweden ‘warm

Senin, 27 Januari 2014

2013 Junior World Rally champion Pontus Tidemand took victory on the Mountain Rally last weekend.

Tidemand was taking in the event, the second round in the 2014 Norwegian Rally Championship, as part of his preparation for next week’s Rally Sweden, where he will pilot a M-Sport-run Ford Fiesta RS WRC in what will be only his second outing in a World Rally Car [see separate story - HERE ].

The youngster did well too winning all six stages in his Team Tätab Fiesta RS WRC and eventually beating Citroen’s Mads Osbterg by 1 minute 36.3 seconds – although the latter opted to use WRC tyres, as opposed to narrower ones that are allowed in the Norwegian Rally Championship

“Our goal was first and foremost to get practice for Rally Sweden,” Tidemand told M-Sport’s official website. “We wanted to find the speed, the confidence and get back the feeling of [driving] a World Rally Car.

“It’s been more than three months since our last rally and then we drove an R2 car so we definitely need to re-adjust to driving a car like this again.”

“Of course it’s fun to win,” he added, “that’s what you’re always looking for when competing, but our biggest win this weekend is that we got the practice we were after.

“We ran our own race, just like Mads did, and I hope this will benefit both of us on Rally Sweden [round two of the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship].”
